19th Century Japanese Meiji Champlevé Brass Vase – Enamel Decoration
£ 125.00
On offer is a finely crafted 19th-century Japanese brass vase from the Meiji period (1868–1912), decorated in the traditional champlevé enamel technique. The brass body is deeply incised with geometric and symbolic patterns, including stylised dragons and auspicious motifs, all filled with rich enamel in blue, green, red, and white tones typical of Meiji-era metalwork.
Standing approximately 8 inches (20 cm) tall, the vase displays the bold, textured appearance characteristic of champlevé, a technique in which the design is carved or cast into the surface and then enamelled and fired. Condition is very good, with light age-related surface wear that complements its historical character.
A strong and decorative example of Meiji craftsmanship and an appealing collectible for lovers of Japanese enamelwork.
