🔍 PROVENANCE / MAKER NOTES
This vase belongs to the celebrated tradition of West German art pottery (1949–1990), also known as “fat lava” ceramics. During this period, makers such as Scheurich, Bay Keramik, Carstens, and Dümler & Breiden produced decorative wares that are today sought after for their sculptural forms and daring glaze work.
The hand-applied “Made in Western Germany” mark on the base confirms its production before German reunification in 1990. While the specific maker is not identified, the form and decoration recall designs attributed to Bay Keramik’s Bodo Mans, whose use of matte grounds with vibrant overlays became iconic in the 1950s–60s.
