Stoneware Doulton Lambeth Jug, Late 19th Century – Victorian Salt-Glazed Pottery
£ 20.00
On offer is an antique Doulton Lambeth stoneware jug from the late 19th century, in two-tone salt-glazed finish. The upper section is a rich brown glaze, while the lower body is left in a lighter buff tone with applied relief decoration. The jug is moulded in relief with rural scenes including a windmill, trees, a seated drinker and animals. It stands approximately 7 inches tall.
The base is impressed DOULTON LAMBETH, the mark used by Doulton’s Lambeth works in London during the Victorian period. The Lambeth factory, active in the 19th century under Henry Doulton, became known for high-quality salt-glazed stoneware and detailed applied decoration. This jug would originally have had a pewter lid, which is now missing, but the body remains in good order with no chips or cracks.
A fine example of late Victorian Doulton Lambeth stoneware that brings character and authenticity to any interior.
