Georgian Sheffield Plate Tantalus with Three Cut Glass Liqueur Decanters
£ 275.00
On offer is a rare early 19th-century Georgian tantalus, crafted in a trefoil form from Sheffield silver plate on copper and fitted with three hand-cut glass liqueur decanters. Sheffield plate, first produced in the mid-18th century, became renowned for its elegant finish and durability, and this example demonstrates the refined decorative style of the Georgian period with C-scroll, shell and floral embellishments throughout.
The three matching decanters feature linear cutting, stepped shoulders, ringed necks and star-cut bases, each held securely within the original silver-plated frame with central ring handle and stopper holders. The set stands on ornate scroll feet, completing a balanced and sophisticated design. The tantalus and decanters remain in excellent antique condition, with only a tiny chip to one stopper noted.
