On offer is a fine Georgian deceptive toasting glass dating to around c.1800. These “illusion” glasses were designed so that the bowl appears full-sized, yet the walls grow thicker towards the base — dramatically reducing the true capacity. They were commonly used during ceremonial toasts where guests were expected to drink repeatedly, allowing the toastmaster to consume far less than it appeared.

This example stands at approximately 4 inches tall and features a sharply snapped pontil, typical of hand-blown Georgian glassware. The bowl has excellent clarity and the stem is neatly formed with a rounded knop. The glass is in good antique condition with no chips or cracks.

A classic and collectible form of late 18th to early 19th century social-drinking history.
