Franz Bergman Cold Painted Bronze Arms Dealer Orientalist Austrian Bronze
£ 255.00
On offer is a rare Austrian cold-painted bronze by Franz Xaver Bergman, depicting an arms dealer standing beside an open chest of weapons on an Orientalist carpet base. Bergman (1861–1936) was one of Vienna’s leading bronze artists, celebrated for his finely cast figures and detailed hand-applied polychrome decoration. This example shows the characteristic modelling, expressive features and intricate surface painting associated with his workshop.
The bronze shows a merchant in traditional dress examining a chest containing rifles and blades, with additional weapons arranged on the carpet. A Bergman foundry mark is present to the base. Condition is good, with age-appropriate wear to the cold paint.
A strong and collectible Franz Bergman cold painted bronze with well-preserved detail and classic Orientalist appeal.
