Bronze Plaque by E. W. Wyon – Children After Reynolds, Dated 1849
£ 245.00
On offer is a rare mid-19th-century bronze plaque by the British sculptor Edward William Wyon (1811–1885). Dated 1849 and inscribed “After Sir Joshua Reynolds by E. W. Wyon Published 1849”, the plaque depicts three children in high relief, rendered with Wyon’s characteristic Neo-Classical modelling and fine detail. Wyon was part of the well-known Wyon family of artists and medallists and produced a range of sculptural works during the Victorian period.
The plaque measures approximately 7.5 inches in diameter and is in good antique condition. There is an old repair to the tip of one child’s toe, and the piece would benefit from re-framing to enhance its presentation. A scarce and attractive example of 19th-century British bronze work.
