Meiji Japanese Turquoise Glazed Frog Vase Antique Biscuit Porcelain
£ 95.00
On offer is a rare Meiji period Japanese biscuit porcelain vase modelled as a frog supporting a tall flaring vessel. Dating to the late 19th to early 20th century, this piece is finished with a vivid turquoise glaze applied over the biscuit body, giving the sculpture strong colour and finely defined detail. The frog, rendered with naturalistic texture, is a traditional Japanese symbol associated with luck and safe travels.
Standing at approximately 8.5 inches tall, the vase displays a small chip on the rim formed during manufacture and now fully glazed over — an original kiln flaw rather than later damage. Aside from this firing imperfection, the piece remains in very good antique condition with no structural cracks or repairs, a rarity for such a delicate sculptural form from the Meiji era.
