Victorian Glass Penny Lick 19th Century Ice Cream Glass

£ 45.00

On offer is an original 19th century Victorian penny lick glass. These small, thick-walled glasses were used by street vendors to serve a penny’s worth of ice cream, which the customer would lick directly from the glass before it was reused. Due to public health concerns — particularly the spread of tuberculosis — penny licks were banned in the early 20th century, making surviving examples increasingly collectible today.

This example stands at approximately 3.5 inches tall and features the characteristic heavy base and shallow concave top. It is in good antique condition with expected signs of age from handling and use.

A classic piece of Victorian social history and an essential item for collectors of antique glass or curiosities.
