🔍 Provenance / Maker Notes
William Crawford & Sons began in Leith, Edinburgh in 1813, producing ship’s biscuits before expanding into sweet varieties. By the late 19th century, the company operated factories in Edinburgh, Liverpool, and London, becoming one of Britain’s most recognised biscuit brands. Crawford’s was later acquired by United Biscuits in 1960.

Glass-lidded tins such as this were used by grocers and confectioners between the 1920s–1940s as shop display containers, allowing customers to view biscuits while keeping them fresh. Surviving examples are scarce due to heavy use and fragility of the glass.
