On offer is a heavily weathered Second World War MkIII turtle steel helmet shell. Introduced to British assault troops in 1944, this deeper helmet design was also worn by Canadian forces during the Normandy campaign. The Imperial War Museum records the MkIII as a British turtle shell helmet first issued in 1944.

The unrestored shell retains traces of green and tan paint beneath extensive oxidation, surface wear and numerous dents. The liner, chin strap and internal fittings are no longer present.
