Georges Van der Straeten Belle Époque Plaster Bust Sculpture
£895.00
On offer is a Belle Époque plaster bust by the celebrated Belgian sculptor Georges Van der Straeten (1856 to 1928). Renowned for his elegant portrait busts and refined modelling, Van der Straeten exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon and was awarded a silver medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle. His plaster sculptures were often the original models from which his highly sought after bronze editions were produced.
This finely modelled bust is signed by the artist and bears an impressed bronze medal exhibition mark to the reverse, dating the piece to his active exhibition years between 1885 and 1912. Standing approximately 17 inches high, it displays the graceful expression and naturalistic detail for which the sculptor is best known. The bust remains in good overall condition with minor surface chips and an old repair to the hat, as shown. A fine example of Belle Époque sculpture by one of Belgium’s most respected artists.
