1808 The Gentle Shepherd by Allan Ramsay Two Volumes

On offer is a two volume 1808 edition of The Gentle Shepherd A Pastoral Comedy by Scottish poet and playwright Allan Ramsay. First published in 1725, this celebrated work portrays rural life and manners in the Scottish Lowlands.

Printed in Edinburgh by Abernethy and Walker, these volumes retain their period illustrations and contain handwritten inscriptions and notes. Both books have damaged spines and foxing, while one volume has two detached boards.

A postcard found inside records an apparent connection with the Kinnoull family and an Archbishop of York. This accompanying provenance is included with the books but has not been independently verified.
