On offer is a small Chinese clay figure of Budai, the smiling monk commonly known as the Laughing Buddha. He is modelled seated in flowing robes, holding prayer beads and displaying the rounded belly and joyful expression traditionally associated with contentment and abundance.

The figure has a fine, sandy texture and an unglazed natural clay finish. A reported impressed mark is present underneath, although it is not sufficiently clear in the photograph to identify a particular maker or studio.

The clay resembles pottery associated with Yixing, but the material and place of manufacture have not been confirmed. The figure is therefore offered as possibly Yixing rather than as authenticated Yixing ware.
