On offer is a large Chinese export porcelain tureen and cover dating to the Qianlong period, 1736 to 1795. Made for the Western export market, its formal European dining shape is combined with traditional Chinese blue and white decoration.

The tureen is hand painted in underglaze cobalt blue with extensive landscapes, buildings, trees and floral borders. It has moulded rabbit mask handles and a pomegranate shaped finial, traditional imagery associated with fertility and abundance.

Measuring approximately 13.5 inches long, this Qianlong Chinese export porcelain tureen has survived with historic damage and repairs. One rabbit handle has chipped ears, the finial has a small chip and the bowl has an old metal staple repair.
