On offer is a rare midget-size miners lamp by E Thomas and Williams, type 3M, dated 28 October 1949. Thomas and Williams of Aberdare were among the most respected makers of safety lamps in Wales, supplying collieries throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. This example carries its original maker’s plate and retains the classic construction associated with their mid-century production.

The lamp belonged to the manager of Deep Navigation Colliery in Treharris, South Wales, and was acquired from the family home as part of a deceased estate. Condition is good overall, with light rusting and age-related wear consistent with its history. A rare and desirable survivor from the South Wales coalfield.
