On offer is a rare 19th-century silver plate on copper charger by Elkington and Co, featuring an impressive high-relief depiction of Bellerophon riding Pegasus among cherubs and swirling clouds. The charger is signed on the front, carries the registered design number, and bears the Elkington and Co plaque on the reverse. Elkington and Co, founded in 1836 in Birmingham, became internationally renowned for pioneering electroplate silver and producing some of the finest Victorian decorative metalwork. This large and dramatic charger is a striking example of their sculptural output, showing deep modelling and exceptional detail. It remains in as-found condition with wear to the silvering, left uncleaned for the buyer to decide on future presentation. A rare and impressive mythological piece by a leading Victorian maker.
