Hand Painted Ceramic Meat Platter Early Nineteenth Century Georgian
£65.00
On offer is a rare early nineteenth century Georgian hand painted ceramic meat platter of large rectangular form. This substantial platter is decorated with richly coloured floral and foliate motifs in cobalt blue iron red and brown tones, arranged around a central cartouche and framed by a patterned border typical of early 1800s tableware.
Large meat platters were an important part of Georgian dining, produced for formal tables and valued household use. This example survives with an early Victorian staple repair, where metal staples were used to mend damage, a traditional restoration method that reflects the original value of the piece. The platter remains unmarked but is clearly the work of a high quality early pottery. Offered for display study or collection, it retains strong decorative and historical appeal despite age related wear.
