On offer is an original 1963 Ruakura airflow meter manufactured by E.M.P. Engineers Ltd of Hamilton, New Zealand. This metal scientific instrument is housed in its fitted wooden carrying case and retains its circular calibrated dial, multiple airflow connections and handwritten Experimental Department Number 2 markings.

The original certificate of test remains fixed beneath the lid. It identifies the instrument as a Ruakura type multi orifice airflow meter, serial number 63023, made for the New Zealand Department of Agriculture at Ruakura Animal Research Station. Dated 17 September 1963, the certificate records testing against a German Standard Orifice from 1930, with readings agreeing within 0.2 per cent.

The wooden case has a metal carrying handle and front fastening. It displays extensive scratches, staining, surface wear and old labels from departmental use. The instrument also shows age related marks and tarnishing. Its working condition has not been established. An unusual surviving piece of New Zealand agricultural and scientific history.
