Markham Colliery began when the Staveley Coal and Iron Company started sinking its first shafts in 1882 near Duckmanton. It developed into one of Derbyshire’s largest collieries, working seams including the Blackshale, First Piper and Second Waterloo. Produced by Edwardian China as a first edition in 1992, this Markham Colliery plate carries a detailed history on the reverse.
