On offer is a large Welsh pottery Grogg figurine depicting the character Will Small Coal, produced by the Grogg Studio founded by John Hughes. This expressive hand modelled figure represents the traditional Welsh coal miner, captured with exaggerated facial features and strong character typical of Hughes’ distinctive caricature style.

John Hughes established the Grogg Studio in South Wales during the mid twentieth century, and his figures are now widely collected for their cultural significance and individual craftsmanship. Although this example is unsigned, it displays all the recognised traits of Grogg Studio work. The figure stands at approximately 12 inches tall and remains in good vintage condition, with minor age related wear consistent with its age. A strong and characterful example of Welsh folk art pottery.
