Beswick Tony Weller Character Jug 281 Large
£25.00
On offer is a large Beswick Tony Weller character jug, model 281, produced in England in hand-painted ceramic. Depicting the well-known Dickensian character from The Pickwick Papers, the jug features Tony Weller in his green hat and patterned cravat, complete with a whip-shaped handle. The strong colours and expressive modelling are characteristic of Beswick’s mid-century character ware.
Beswick, founded in Staffordshire in the 1890s, became renowned for its finely crafted animal figures and literary character jugs, many of which have become highly collectible. This example stands at approximately 7 inches tall and is in good condition with no chips or cracks.
