The right outer guard stick is split and broken. This damage may explain why the fan was later preserved within its substantial custom made fan shaped glazed frame. The elaborate presentation includes a mauve textile backing, ribbon roses, lace butterflies, bows and imitation pearl details. Considerable care and expense went into the bespoke framing, suggesting this was a treasured fan, possibly passed down through a family and eventually framed as a bridal or wedding keepsake.
