On offer is a Japanese carved wood fighting fish with glass eyes, a characterful decorative carving with strong folk art appeal. This Japanese carved wood fighting fish is sculpted with flowing fins and textured body detail, enhanced by inset glass eyes that give the piece expressive character.

Hand carved wooden fish figures such as this were often produced as decorative ornaments, reflecting traditional Japanese craftsmanship and an appreciation of natural forms. The elongated fins and dynamic pose capture the movement associated with fighting fish.

The fish measures just over 5 inches in length. There is a visible split in the wood along with a couple of small chips, as shown clearly in the images. These age related issues are noted for accuracy and do not detract from its decorative impact.

A charming Japanese carved wood fighting fish with glass eyes, ideal for collectors of Asian carvings and folk art pieces.
