Polish Silver Ladle Karol Jerzy Lilpop Warsaw Nineteenth Century
£4,995.00
On offer is an exceptionally rare and historically important Polish silver ladle crafted in Warsaw by the renowned silversmith Karol Jerzy Lilpop and dated 1849. This substantial ladle is a fine example of nineteenth century Polish silver, combining refined form with skilled craftsmanship and a richly gilded bowl.
The ladle measures approximately 16 inches in length and weighs 278 grams. It is in good condition for its age, showing visible dents to the bowl and a small repair to one child’s toe. The hallmarks are crisp and clear, confirming authenticity, and the gilding to the bowl is well preserved, reflecting the high standard of work associated with Lilpop.
Karol Jerzy Lilpop belonged to one of Poland’s most important artisan and industrial families. The Lilpop name is closely associated with Warsaw silver and with the wider cultural and industrial development of Poland during the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Much Polish silver was lost during the upheavals of the twentieth century, particularly during the Second World War when vast quantities were looted or melted down. Surviving pieces of early Polish silver by known makers are now extremely scarce.
This ladle is therefore not only a fine piece of antique silver but also a rare survivor of Polish cultural heritage. A remarkable example of Polish silver that brings historical depth, authenticity, and significance to any serious collection.
