On offer is an authentic French Model 1866 Chassepot bayonet, a classic piece of nineteenth century military history. This curved steel bayonet was originally produced for the Chassepot rifle and examples remained in service well beyond their introduction, with many seeing continued military use during the First World War.

The bayonet retains its original ribbed grip and distinctive hooked quillon. The blade has the correct curved profile and shows honest age related wear and surface patina consistent with its age and military service. The original scabbard is not present.
