Directly carved from one solid block of wood, it depicts a heavily robed bowed figure with closed eyes, bare feet and arms drawn protectively across the body.

The pronounced forward inclination appears deliberate, strengthening its contemplative character while suggesting it was intended for elevated display and viewing from below. Bold carving marks cover the surface, while the figure stands upon an integral black painted base with a felted underside.

A large shrinkage split runs down the back, with additional splits through the base from the solid timber drying and moving over time. These are clearly visible but the sculpture remains structurally sound. A powerful example of figurative carving with the austerity and emotional intensity associated with Cold War era Eastern European art.
