Bowenite Serpentine New Jade Chinese Lady Figure
£225.00
On offer is a 20th century Chinese carved bowenite serpentine figure depicting an elegant lady holding a fan and flower. The translucent pale green hardstone displays natural colour variation and inclusions, with finely carved flowing robes and a fitted wooden display stand.
Bowenite is a compact variety of serpentine commonly marketed under the traditional trade name new jade. A water displacement specific gravity test produced a dry weight of 226 grams and a displaced water weight of 88 grams. This calculates to a specific gravity of 2.57, consistent with bowenite serpentine rather than nephrite or jadeite.
