The jug has a rounded body assembled with raised seams, a narrow neck, fitted lid, rolled edges and a large arched side handle. Comparable J. Quenault vessels are catalogued as Jersey milk cans by both Jersey Heritage and the National Trust for Scotland.

Its warm, aged surface remains unpolished, with dents, scratches and wear reflecting many years of practical use. A characterful piece of antique Jersey copperware with a clearly stamped local maker.
