Antique Jersey Copper Milk Measure Jug – J. Ouenault Tin Smith – 8″ – Patinated Farmhouse Decor
£20.00
On offer is a rare and authentic antique copper milk measure jug from Jersey, Channel Islands, handmade by J. Ouenault, Tin Smith, as stamped clearly to the base. This beautifully aged vessel stands approximately 8 inches tall and is a superb example of early utility craftsmanship, now prized for its decorative and historical appeal.
The jug features a distinctive bulbous form with hand-riveted seam detailing, arched side handle, and original rolled rim. Though it shows signs of age and use—including several small dents and surface wear (please refer to images)—its original rich, untouched patina adds tremendous character and depth.
J. Ouenault was a local tinsmith active in Jersey, likely in the late 19th to early 20th century, crafting utilitarian items such as this for rural dairy and agricultural use. Milk measures like these were common across farms in the Channel Islands, used daily for portioning and storing milk, but very few have survived with clear maker’s marks and such rich visual integrity.
