Kutani ware has been celebrated since the seventeenth century for its richly coloured enamels and detailed hand painted decoration, making it one of Japan’s most recognised ceramic traditions.

This early twentieth century example, likely dating from the late Meiji to Taishō period, bears the auspicious Fuku mark to the base, a symbol of good fortune. Standing approximately 7.5 inches tall, the vase remains in good antique condition with no chips or cracks. There is a slight firing warp causing a gentle rock when placed on a flat surface, a common kiln characteristic found on hand finished porcelain of the period.
