Cobalt Jasperware Lidded Jar Antique English Tobacco Humidor
£40.00
On offer is an antique English cobalt jasperware lidded jar dating from approximately 1890 to 1910. Believed to have been intended as a tobacco jar or humidor, it features applied white relief decoration against a rich cobalt blue ground.
The continuous countryside scene includes figures, hunting dogs, horses, trees and floral borders. The base is impressed S JASPER ENGLAND, confirming that it is not a Wedgwood marked piece. Jasperware was introduced by Josiah Wedgwood during the 1770s and was later produced by several competing English potteries using similar matte grounds and contrasting relief decoration.
