The flowing organic form and hammered surface are characteristic of the Art Nouveau movement, which favoured natural motifs and hand crafted finishes.

The inset ceramic cabochon is attributed to Ruskin Pottery, established in England in the late 19th century and well regarded for its experimental glazes and art pottery production. The box measures approximately 3.5 by 2.5 inches and retains its original attractive pewter patina. Condition is good overall; however, both hinges are broken. The lid can be lifted on and off, as used by the previous owner, or the hinges could be replaced if desired. A pleasing and authentic Art Nouveau pewter box with decorative and historical interest.
