Chinese Carved Ivory Fan 19th Century Antique Openwork Hand Fan

£125.00

On offer is an antique 19th-century Chinese carved ivory fan, finely worked with delicate openwork decoration across twenty matching blades. The material appears to be walrus ivory, a substance historically used in Qing-period carving for its strength and smooth working surface.
When fully opened, the fan measures approximately 13 inches across, with each blade around 7.25 inches long. It remains in good overall condition for age, though there are minor chips and losses within some of the carved sections. The original ribbon has deteriorated with time and will require replacement with new silk. A well-preserved example of traditional Chinese ivory carving from the period.
