Antique Brass Military Button Cleaning Protector Smith and Wright

£30.00

On offer is an antique solid brass military button cleaning uniform protector, a practical 19th-century tool designed to slide behind uniform buttons to prevent polish from marking the cloth. This example was made by Smith & Wright of Birmingham, noted Victorian manufacturers of military accoutrements and uniform fittings.

The piece bears clear WD (War Department) and broad arrow marks to the reverse, together with 1st Somerset, No. 763, and the date 1863, giving it strong regimental and historical interest. Condition is good, with honest wear from service use. Approximate length is 8 inches.
