Sheffield Plate Georgian Tankard with Wood Base Circa 1780
£ 65.00
On offer is an antique 18th century Sheffield plate tankard dating to around 1780, featuring the typical Georgian baluster form and a fitted wood base. Early Sheffield plate was produced by fusing silver to copper, and after more than two centuries the original silver surface has largely worn, revealing the warm copper tones beneath — a common and desirable characteristic of surviving period pieces. Standing approximately 5 inches tall, this example shows honest age with a dent to the front rim, as visible in the images. A good and increasingly scarce example of an 18th century Sheffield plate tankard.
