Victorian Penny Lick Ice Cream Glass 19th Century (1)

£35.00

On offer is an original 19th-century Victorian penny lick ice cream glass. These small, thick-walled glasses were used by street vendors who served ice cream to be licked directly from the glass before returning it to the seller. Due to hygiene concerns, including the spread of tuberculosis, penny licks were banned in the early 20th century, making surviving examples highly collectible today. This example stands around 3 inches tall and displays the typical manufacturing irregularities of the period, including three rough areas where the stem joins the bowl and foot—common in these cheaply produced utilitarian items.
