On offer is a 19th century English silicon ware jug by W. Brownfield of Cobridge and Alloa, dated precisely by its registered design lozenge mark to 20 April 1866. The jug is moulded in the form of a barrel with detailed relief decoration of grapes, vine leaves and barley around the upper section, a style typical of Brownfield’s mid-Victorian output. Brownfield, established in the early 19th century, became known for its innovative ceramic bodies and finely executed moulded designs, many of which are now highly regarded by collectors.

The jug stands approximately 6.25 inches tall and remains in good condition with no chips or cracks, showing only minor surface staining consistent with age. A well-preserved example of Victorian silicon ware with an exact registration date.
