The base is engraved Presented to V Skoczek NACODS Bargoed Colliery 1977. Its maker’s plaque reads E Thomas and Williams Ltd Cambrian Works Aberdare Wales UK. Founded in Aberdare in 1860, the company became an important manufacturer of miners’ safety lamps. Bargoed Colliery closed on 4 June 1977, making this dated presentation lamp a particularly relevant piece of Welsh mining history.
