1963 Paris Brussels SNCF Bronze Medal Railway Electrification 80mm
£75.00
On offer is a substantial 1963 bronze commemorative medal issued by the SNCF to mark the electrification of the international railway line between Paris and Brussels. Cast in high-relief bronze and measuring approximately 80 mm in diameter and 8 mm thick, this is an impressive and weighty example of mid-20th-century French medallic art.
The obverse shows the coats of arms of Paris and Brussels, encircled by the bilingual inscription Paris – Bruxelles – Brussel. The reverse features an electric catenary system representing the modernised rail infrastructure, together with the SNCF mark, the date 1963, and a maker’s signature from a recognised French medal engraver.
The medal survives in very good vintage condition, retaining its original aged patina with only minor surface wear. A rare and well-crafted collectible linked to a significant milestone in European rail development.
