On offer is a 1947 brass Welsh miners lamp made by Thomas and Williams of Aberdare, one of the best-known historic manufacturers of safety lamps for the coal mining industry. Founded in the mid-19th century, Thomas and Williams supplied lamps to collieries across Wales and became recognised for their robust, dependable construction.
This example is a Type No.1 under B, dated 1947 on the maker’s plaque. It is constructed in brass with protective rods surrounding the glass chamber and retains its original fittings. The lamp stands approximately 10 inches tall without the handle. Condition is good overall with age-related wear and a hole through the base, all clearly shown in the images. A highly collectible post-war miners lamp with strong industrial heritage.
