18th Century Mezzotint William Ward After George Morland The Thatcher
£ 295.00
On offer is an 18th-century mezzotint by William Ward (1766–1826), engraved after the original painting by George Morland (1763–1804). Titled The Thatcher, this rural scene reflects Morland’s celebrated depictions of Georgian village life, rendered here through Ward’s highly regarded mezzotint technique. Ward was one of the foremost engravers of his era, and his collaborations with Morland remain among the most desirable works in British printmaking.
The print is presented in its original late 18th-century oak frame — a rare survival that adds considerable historical value. The mezzotint has been examined out of the frame, revealing the signature under the mount. It remains in very good condition with no damage; the frame shows expected age-related patina while retaining its period character. Frame size is approximately 670 mm by 565 mm.
