Rare William Ridgway Relief Jug – Acorns & Berries – c.1861-1870 – 8″ Tall

£ 55.00

On offer is a rare and exceptional 19th-century relief-moulded jug, attributed to William Ridgway, Son & Co., dating from around 1861–1870. This Acorns and Berries pattern jug is a striking example of English stoneware craftsmanship during the Victorian era, characterized by its deeply sculpted floral and oak motif and finely detailed twisted branch handle.

This jug is produced in a warm buff-colored stoneware body, standing approximately 8 inches tall. The entire surface is richly decorated with acorns, oak leaves, and berries in a deep relief, giving the jug a highly tactile and organic feel. The elegant twisted handle, also formed in relief, perfectly complements the botanical design. The form and design are illustrated and recorded in William Ridgway’s pattern books under pattern numbers 3, 24, and 26 (with variations in color and gilding).
Although unmarked — as was common for many Ridgway pieces from this period — its design and modeling are well-documented in Henrywood RMJ/43 and Hughes 2/34 references.

This piece remains in good antique condition, with minor expected surface wear consistent with its age. A highly collectible and decorative piece of Victorian stoneware, perfect for collectors and period decorators.
