Rare 18th Century Berlin Porcelain Love Mug – Hand Painted Stag Scene
£ 70.00
On offer is a rare and exquisite 18th-century Berlin Porcelain two-handled “Love Mug”, dating from the early period of 1763 to 1837, during the early years of the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur (KPM Berlin). This charming and collectible piece is beautifully hand-painted with a pastoral scene depicting a stag and doe in a tranquil landscape, framed by delicate floral sprays.
These “love mugs” were traditionally designed with dual handles to be held and shared between two people, often given as sentimental gifts or tokens of affection. The finely painted decoration and gentle romantic symbolism of the deer pair make this a particularly evocative and personal antique.
Measuring approximately 70mm in height, the mug remains in good antique condition, showing only minimal wear consistent with age. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs, and the hand-painted artwork remains crisp and vibrant. The mug exhibits all the quality hallmarks of early KPM Berlin porcelain, including its fine, white body and delicately executed enamel painting.
