Antique 19th Century Bell Metal Pestle & Mortar – Georgian/Victorian Apothecary

£ 75.00

On offer is a rare and substantial early 19th-century pestle and mortar, crafted from bell metal (a high-tin bronze alloy) or brass, and dating to the late Georgian to early Victorian period. This piece was likely used in an apothecary, herbalist, or alchemical setting, as evidenced by the dual square handles, which allowed it to be strapped or clamped in place during heavy grinding.

The mortar stands approx. 4.5 inches tall, with a wide flared rim and thick cylindrical body. The pestle measures approx. 9.5 inches in length and has a classic T-bar handle — ideal for applying controlled downward pressure. Both pieces show a beautiful aged patina with warm bronze tones, consistent with over 150 years of age.

There are no major cracks or repairs, and both pieces are in good functional and decorative condition, displaying minor wear and surface marks as expected with authentic antique use.
