On offer is a striking and historically significant bronze medallion, issued in 1963 to commemorate the electrification of the railway line between Paris and Brussels—a milestone in European rail travel. This large, beautifully cast medallion was produced for the SNCF (Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Français) and features rich symbolism and impressive size, measuring approx. 80mm in diameter and 8mm thick.
The obverse features the coats of arms of Paris and Brussels in raised relief, with the cities’ names boldly encircling the design in both French and Flemish: “Paris – Bruxelles – Brussel.” The reverse side displays an electric catenary system, symbolic of the modernised power infrastructure introduced on the line, and includes the official SNCF mark, dated 1963, along with the medal maker’s signature (often from prestigious French foundries or engravers).
